All we, like sheep, have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
Isaiah 53:6
I’ve heard some say they didn’t want to be known as a “sheep”, thinking that being the sheep is being a bad thing. Sheep are dumb. Sheep will follow anyone. Perhaps, but the reality is that we are ALL like sheep, so the question becomes what kind of sheep will we be?
Have you ever heard there are three categories of people? There are:
- Type A: Those who make things happen (the drivers)
- Type B: Those who watch things happen (the passengers)
- Type C: Those who wonder what the heck just happened (the bystanders)
So many these days look around and see what all is happening globally and react in one of the following ways –
- Confusion
Confusion that results in fear, leading to herd mentality (if one runs over the cliff they all run over it).
Confusion, but looking for guidance
These are in category C - Greed, wondering how they can get onto the bandwagon that drives the herd.
These are in category B - Abuse. Those “in on the deal” who exploit and look for useful idiots.
These are in category A
If you are thinking to yourself that you fit none of those, that’s good! I have a category that does not fall into ABC or 123.
Those who have insight will shine brightly like the brightness of the expanse of heaven, and those who lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever. Daniel 12:3
Many will be purged, purified and refined, but the wicked will act wickedly; and none of the wicked will understand, but those who have insight will understand. Daniel 12:10
People with insight and understanding have the privilege of seeing things from a different, “outsiders” perspective. Psalms 23:4 in The Passion Translation puts it this way:
Even when your path takes me through the valley of deepest darkness, fear will never conquer me, for you already have! Your authority is my strength and my peace. The comfort of your love takes away my fear. I’ll never be lonely, for you are near.
May I only ever be driven by You and You alone, my God and my Rock! May I be a shining light for everyone who is looking for guidance.
I would rather be awake and alive to God’s Spirit than asleep and dull of hearing, about to run over a cliff.
