Who among us hasn’t skipped a meal or eaten “on the go” when we were in a hurry? Not a big deal unless you do it too often, then your physical body begins to reflect the consequences.

Song of Solomon 2:4 and Revelation 19:9 each talk about banquets we will experience, on earth yes but especially in Heaven. This subject was brought up in an 8-video series I watched on YouTube not long ago called “Imagine Heaven”, with John Burke. Those who had Near Death Experiences (or NDEs) Burke had interviewed were expressing that we will eat in Heaven, but food in Heaven is not for sustenance. It is for fellowship. I love that!

So when Jesus told His disciples in John 4:32 “I have food that you know not of”, I can imagine He was referring to the fellowship He shares with His Father on a continual basis. A fellowship that indeed provides more “sustenance” than any physical food ever could.

Fellowship with God is where we too derive our spiritual sustenance and nutrition. We need to partake daily in order to be healthy and thrive. By thrive I mean having the power to endure and overcome the storms of this life, experience (know) His love, and receive the grace we need to love one another. Without it we will be malnourished and will eventually starve, as we discover the “junk food” of this earth neither satisfies nor sustains.

“This is the bread which came down from heaven—not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.”

John 6:58

“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!”

Psalm 34:8
