Not long ago I was in prayer, confessing to the Lord a frustration I felt with the spiritual growth of someone I love dearly.  I was asking the Lord to correct my attitude so that I could rightly encourage and not hinder.   A picture flashed into my thoughts of an exuberant 2-year-old.

A question came to mind, if I were to ask a wholehearted, passionate 2-year-old to run a marathon, what would happen?

My first thought was that he’d probably want to know ‘what’s a marathon?’.  I laughed.  But then I also thought if he was excited to please and could understand what I was asking him to do for me then he would probably try it.  Maybe he would try it more than once!  But then how easily I pictured him giving up in frustration and tears because in his desire to obey, he just did not have the strength. BUT… I imagine if I asked that same 2-year-old 15 years later, the strength and ability he grew into would be exciting to watch and see.

It was easy for me to relate to the 2-year-old as well as tie this into my Faith Walk post from February 12.  So often we know what the Lord expects and desire to please Him, but sometimes we simply just do not yet have the strength we need.  What a beautiful picture of the grace He extends by allowing us to grow into our strength and obedience, even when we perceive circumstances are against us.
