A conversation…

Lord Jesus, I was looking at the darkness in our culture and society today and pondering over the fact that the further a society pulls away from Christian heritage and values, the darker their culture becomes. If we think of You like the sun, You gave us a picture of this in the light we receive from the sun, not just in a 24 hour period of daylight and night, but also within an annual period of the four seasons responding to the length of daylight verses darkness.

Where are we, Lord? If we take the history of man and compare it to a 24 hour period of darkness and light, are we at twilight, in the setting of the light? No, I think not because it feels much, much darker than that. Perhaps the dead of night then? I can see You speaking in every 24 hour rotation of the sun, telling us things like “it’s always darkest before dawn”. Why is that? Because the sun is at its furthest point away before breaking upon the horizon in the other direction?

I love you, my Lord. When will the dawn come? Can You prolong the light? Are You willing, or do You need to prolong the light like You did once for Joshua – only this time spiritually speaking rather than in the physical realm? Or is it best to allow the darkness to run its course, knowing that daylight is coming, it is once again imminent? Which is better?

I hear You whisper, “Harvest takes place in the daylight hours”. You said in John 9:4-5 to work while it is day, for the night is coming when no man can work, and that while You are in the world, You are the LIGHT of the world. Is there ever a time when You are not in this world? Were You talking about Your earthly presence? This leads me back to the darkness that is pervading our society now. When You withdraw from the souls of man, all is darkness and gloom.

If You were talking about Your physical presence on this earth, then I see the residue of Your light is far reaching. It reminds me of how there is still light for a brief while after the sun has gone down below the horizon, because the light is far reaching even to today. When You left this earth, the LIGHT set beyond the horizon. Is the only reason we see light now is because Your light is so far reaching? And every passing moment leads us further into the darkness?

Don’t leave us in the darkness, oh Lord! Dawn on us again!

Arise, shine; For your light has come!
And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.
For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth,
And deep darkness the people;
But the Lord will arise over you,
And His glory will be seen upon you.

Isaiah 60:1-2

Thank You, Lord! Thank you for Your light! When is the great harvest? Is it in the setting, or in the… AWAKENING! AH, I see it now. Indeed, it is in the awakening, thank You for that revelation! Oh Lord, let the history of mankind be in the dawning hours! May we all be awakening now from the deep sleep we have been in. And thank You, too, for I know that although You are no longer here on this earth physically, You will be again soon! A day is coming when You will physically illumine the earth with Your presence. In the meantime, we have You in our hearts much like a home has light shining within it and is visible for miles away in darkness. Even in total darkness, Your light still shines within us! We can see evidence of Your dawning, it’s getting ready to crest the horizon even now. Come, Lord Jesus!
