I was reading Psalm 78, an account of the ancient Israelites God brought out of Egypt and fed them with manna in the desert. Verse 18 stood out to me: “And in their heart they put God to the test by asking for food that suited their taste“.
I prayed βOh God, how many times have I not been grateful for the manna, the daily provision of all things, spiritual, physical, mental, that you have given me? I am sorry for putting you to the test by asking for manna that appeases my sinful cravings and fuels my lack of trust in you. You alone satisfy my soul with good things. Teach me to walk in your ways so that my heart sings for joy under the shadow of your wings (Ps 63:5-7). May I remember all the great miracles you have powerfully performed in my life, and of your great love for me (Ps 78:42).
I pray this over you, too, dear reader, in perhaps what feels like a hidden season in your life where no one sees your obedience or the work you are doing. I speak blessings and patience over you as God is preparing you for the visible season that lies ahead. God was with you when you slayed the lion and the bear, and he is preparing you for when you will slay giants.
May we all be grateful as we remember what God has done in days past, and may we be obedient to what He is revealing today.
