Did you know that one oxen can pull up to 1,500 pounds? It’s amazing to think about. I can just picture one oxen approaching another and asking the manly “ARRGH ARRGH ARRGH” question – “Yo, how much you bench?”
Yeah… I’m not sure any one of us could top that. There are just certain burdens we were not meant to bear alone, ya know? Which begs the next question, if one oxen can pull 1,500, how much do you think TWO oxen could pull? At least double? No, waaay more than double. Two oxen can pull as much as 8,000 pounds. Wow!
Have you ever felt unequally yoked with someone else, like you were pulling all the weight and they were pulling none of it, or only a portion of it? You want so badly to share the burden so the two of you together become what’s known as the force multiplier by accomplishing things you never would have been able to alone?
Anyone who ever thought marriage is always a 50/50 proposition has likely never been married, or never been married long enough to know there are times when one gives way more than the other and vise-versa. In today’s disposable society, the message that the grass is greener elsewhere is ever before us. Just leave and go find someone else who will pull the weight with you… until they don’t.
So what now? Oh let me tell you, that is the beauty of having a personal relationship with the living God. In Matthew 11:28 Jesus says:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Like I said, there are certain burdens we were never meant to bear alone. Give His yoke a try, you’ll be amazed by how much you can “bench”!
