“Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am, you will die in your sins.” John 8:24
So Jesus said, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am, and I do nothing on My own, but I say these things as the Father instructed Me. .” John 8:28
Did you catch it? He is telling them plainly that HE is the great I AM encountered by Moses in Exodus chapter three. Here again in verse 58:
Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.”
Three times in John chapter 8 He tells them, and yet there were some who still did not see Him for who He is.
They did raise Jesus up. They lifted Him up onto a cross, and He took His place. Those in His day who had hardened their hearts saw only the death of the one standing in their way. Those who believed saw I AM.
