If I were to ask you to define eternal life, to somehow put that concept into words, what might you say? Forever bliss? Life without end? To be remembered centuries into the future? Or perhaps something else.
What if I were to say to you that Jesus defined eternal life for us, would you be surprised?
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. – Jesus, in John 17:3
Simply put, the sum of eternal life is to know the Father and the Son. Not just know about them but really know them.
If you knew Christianity was true, would you believe?
It’s astounding that we read in John 17 that THE Most High God, creator of this universe and everything in it, is extending a personal invitation to you – not only to get to know Him, but to be one with Him! To cast aside fear and shame and guilt and embrace pure love, righteousness, and holiness.
Amazing! Jesus made a way for us to do just this; and it means eternal life is not something you or I need wait for. We can have real, eternal LIFE, starting here, now.
I love verse 24 – Jesus desires! This is heartfelt petition, telling His Father what matters most to Him.
Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. John 17:24
Let that thought sink in. Jesus desires that we be with Him and see Him for who He is in all of His glory, the way John saw it on the isle of Patmos, a glory that is illuminated by the love of His Father. OUR Father. Wow, I want that not just for me but for all my loved ones! And I want that for you, too.
Perhaps today is the day.
