A short prayer concerning yesterday’s election. I dunno, maybe it will bring peace to you, too.

Lord Jesus,

GLORY to your name! Your word is great, and greatly to be praised.

Our nation is reeling from a kick in the gut last night from the apparent outcome of the elections. A sucker punch so many of us didn’t see coming, but should not have been surprised by, nonetheless.

BUT GOD! You, Oh Lord, it is by YOUR hand that nations and kings rise and fall. Our forefathers made a covenant with you over this land. Our nation was birthed by you, dedicated to you, led by you, kept by you. You have been there through all her triumphs and struggles.

Yesterday the enemy beat her with deadly blows and then seemingly posed a question of authority once asked of you, by Pilate. But, like then, the Jesus within those of the covenant rose up, looked the enemy straight in the eye and reminded him that he has NO authority over us unless it has been granted to him from above – and so the ones who handed us, covenant keepers, over to him – it is they who have the greater sin!

Where does that leave the nation as a whole? The same exact place it was the day before yesterday, with kingdom bearers shining your light in the darkness as you set the table before us in the presence of our enemies. May we not pine for what is lost but, pressing forward to the prize set before us, feast on you!

Amen.
